Meadow Road, Worthing

Meadow Road, Worthing When Clarkson Alliance was awarded a grant from Innovate UK in recognition of our efforts to integrate the latest technology into projects and properly research the tangible benefits of BIM, we partnered with social housing provider Worthing Homes on a £1.4 million design and build scheme for 12 flats in three blocks. Our objective was to conduct research that articulated the changes in process and behaviours that construction teams need to adapt to when working in a BIM environment. From experience, we know that the biggest challenge is not the tools and processes but the collaboration amongst individuals that is required to make it successful. The tendering process and integrated design was completed via a federated BIM model, run on our technology partner’s (Clearbox) central digital information “middleware” platform BIMXtra. The results of the research will be published, however an interim report is available which captured the project midway through the process. The project is also part of the Constructing Excellence Innovation in Practice series. Cardinal House, Oxford

Cardinal House, Oxford

Cardinal House, Oxford Oxford City Council needed to transform Cardinal House, a sheltered housing accommodation block in Littlemore and they looked to Clarkson Alliance to help deliver the project. The existing 33 homes required modernisation and refurbishment with a brand new extension that would form 20 new 1 bedroom flats, built to Code 4 of the Code for Sustainable homes, exceeding the national standard. Clarkson Alliance has significant experience working with NEC3 and was able to support Oxford City Council’s internal project manager to deliver the project on time and within budget. We were chosen to manage this project because of our knowledge and experience of managing projects under the NEC3 suite of contracts and our collaborative approach to risk management. Lambourn Road, Oxford

Lambourn Road, Oxford

Lambourn Road, Oxford When we were approached by Oxford City Homes to project manage a £5.8m development of 24 bungalows which had become structurally unsound we were able to bring our extensive knowledge and experience of working with NEC3. The proposal was to build 38 new, mixed use dwellings to provide not only additional space, but also to adopt energy efficient technology advancements. The scope also included the associated external and highway works. In return, for affordable rental rates the residents would benefit from under floor heating, PV solar roof panels, increased insulation, water heated by air source heat pumps and utility levels monitoring. The completed project meets the Building for Life standard and Lifetime Homes standard which means that very little adjustment is required as the needs of residents change, either through age or disability. Oxford City Homes chose us because of our collaborative approach to risk management which meant we were able to provide clarity over contractual responsibilities. We also always analyse the business case in detail and seek to increase the return on the capital investment wherever possible and in this case, the project was delivered substantially below budget thanks to considerable procurement savings.
