Rose Hill Community Centre, Oxford

Rose Hill in Oxford has benefitted from a £4.67 million investment by Oxford City Council into a new build community centre. The project unites four separate services into a single location for the first time – a sports facility, advice service, health centre and community centre.

The new building was project and cost managed by Clarkson Alliance, having delivered a number of community leisure projects in partnership with the Local Authority over a number of years.

The project involved intensive community engagement.  Oxford City Council ran a campaign to involve local residents from the start of the project.  The extensive engagement helped the community to have a strong voice in shaping the new venue.  The project also involved the demolition of the former community centre located at a site nearby.

The Rose Hill scheme helps Oxford City Council to realise operational efficiencies and reduce service costs by combining facilities, which include a 30 station gym, sports pavilion and changing rooms under one roof. The additional facilities provided include an advice centre, social club, event space for rental with a bar, meeting rooms, youth facility, training kitchen and a health centre.

The design stages of the project utilised Building Information Modelling (BIM), a state-of-the-art construction technology incorporating 3D modelling and simulation of the building.   BIM enhances the understanding for project stakeholders by communicating clearly how the final building will look which generated essential support for the scheme.

The new centre has become central to the community with multiple groups now utilising the facilities to create a vibrant and lively hub of activity.
