Malvern Hills District Council, via Freedom Leisure
Splash Leisure Centre, Malvern
Value: £2m
The Brief
Our original brief in April 2020 was to refurbish and modernise the 80s-built wet change area of the changing village, particularly the lockers and cubicles. The whole changing village was dated, smelly, stuffy and humid.
Design input was needed to improve the layout, ceiling height and air flow.
Project Delivery
Design work began in April 2020, during the UK’s first lockdown due to the Covid pandemic.
As the centre was forced to close to the public, the council took the opportunity to extend the scope to include pool-side refurbishment.
The team therefore worked virtually on design from April to July 2020.
Following the procurement phase, Clarkson Alliance provided project and cost management to deliver:
- Fully refurbished swimming pool changing rooms – with improved airflow, lockers and cubicles
- Dedicated changing facilities for people with disabilities
- Additional family changing areas
- An improved, modernised main pool area which was re-tiled, repaired and reglazed
- A learner pool tank
- A new water flume
- Redecorated external façade to match new interior pool glazing
The Outcomes
The work was completed to budget with the extended scope accommodated.
The council was able to confidently announce the re-opening on 12th March 2021, in readiness for the national opening of leisure centres to the public on 12th April 2021.
