Sacrewell Farm is an English Tourist Board, Quality Assured visitor attraction providing activities throughout the year. With significant experience in heritage projects and helping to secure funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clarkson Alliance was chosen to oversee the £1.8 million project delivery and cost management.

We provided strategic input to the Trust on developing a sustainable business plan which would also support the long term future of the farm, taking into account the high priority preservation factor due to the watermill being in the top 8% of listed buildings in the UK.

The scope of the project included construction restoration works to create a new bespoke educational facility, accommodation for residential training courses and includes extensive conservation of walls, roofs, floors etc. and restoration refurbishment of the mechanics of the water mill machinery as well as the installation of a hydro-electric scheme, fire and intruder systems.

Clarkson Alliance helped the Trust to successfully secure Stage 1 and 2 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and worked collaboratively and decisively with all the stakeholders involved.

The project has since gone on to win multiple awards at RICS East of England 2016 including overall Project of the Year.

Sacrewell Farm has been widely appreciated for its Farm and Activity centre since it first opened in 1964.  Even though our Water Mill onsite is an important listed building, its presence hasn’t been as well-known as some of the other attractions here.  The restoration project has been a great success of collaboration between the Heritage Lottery Fund, William Scott Abbott Trust at Sacrewell and the team managed by Clarkson Alliance. The new building will pave the way for a greater understanding of Milling through our new Centre of Excellence in Milling.Having worked with Clarkson Alliance to manage the project and the budget, we have valued their open and proactive approach backed by their extensive heritage knowledge.

The project has helped secure Sacrewell as one of the leading attractions in the local area, broadening and enriching the range of activities we can offer.
