Wrexham and Chirk Leisure Centres A partnership between Wrexham County Borough Council, Freedom Leisure, Clarkson Alliance and Leisure Energy to refurbish two leisure centres In our capacity as design, project and cost managers Clarkson Alliance has been working closely with Freedom Leisure and Wrexham County Borough Council to develop and deliver the scheme of refurbishment. Chirk Leisure and Activity Centre will be completed in July 2017, with work at Waterworld, Wrexham finishing during autumn 2017. Clarkson Alliance is also providing Principal Designer services. The improvements to the two leisure centres in Wrexham aim to increase participation by residents by offering a greater selection of activities that will attract a wider demographic, so helping to reduce inactivity and improve well being. The completed will be more offer greater accessibility for users, as well as being more energy efficient. At Chirk, the improvements include an extension to and refurbishment of the existing gym and an upgraded reception area. At Waterworld, the cafe, reception and changing rooms are being improved, and a cycling studio added. The alterations which have been made at the two sites will reduce energy by 400 tonnes p.a. which is equivalent to the energy needed to power 150 new three bedroom houses each year. Islington Tennis Centre – Islington When London Borough of Islington sought a partner to operate their leisure centres, it was important to choose an organisation sharing their commitment of continual advancement and inclusivity. When GLL approached the Local Authority with plans to transform their centres supported by proposals from Clarkson Alliance, a strategic partnership was formed.   As one of the UK’s leading charitable social enterprises, GLL operates 215 leisure centres in the UK.  They successfully beat the competition to win the Islington contract with proposals that included capital improvement designs by Clarkson Alliance.  The plans included energy savings by our sister company, Leisure Energy. Both London Borough of Islington and GLL had ambitions to improve current participation in health and fitness, an area in which Clarkson Alliance excel. Islington Tennis Centre is the third leisure centre being revamped in the area as part of the revitalisation programme across five facilities since GLL took over.  Each centre is being project and cost managed by Clarkson Alliance, who are also providing principal designer services. The £950,000 project at Islington Tennis Centre focuses on providing improved quality and access for visitors.  Enhanced wellness is encouraged through a brand new health suite. A new studio provides greater flexibility for classes and an extended gym enables more visitors to use the facilities.  A new training room provides dedicated space for the development of staff and customers and new offices will also be created.   Cally Pool & Gym – Islington Cally Pool & Gym in Islington is the first of five centres benefitting from leisure investment from London Borough of Islington in partnership with leisure operator and charitable social enterprise, GLL.   Cally Pool & Gym in Islington is the first of five centres benefitting from leisure investment from London Borough of Islington in partnership with leisure operator and charitable social enterprise, GLL. Clarkson Alliance has been chosen to provide design, project management, cost management and principal designer services for the £6.2million investment into the borough’s leisure facilities. Clarkson Alliance has a track record of delivering high quality capital improvement projects in leisure.  We work in partnership with Local Authorities and charitable social enterprises to design and manage projects that deliver our customer’s project objectives. The purpose of the Cally Pool & Gym project is to raise the standards of the facilities offering more attractive and varied leisure options to occupants of Islington. The £100k refurbishment at Cally Pool & Gym has been used to develop a newly enlarged gym overlooking the pool and new reception area. Leisure Energy, a sister company to Clarkson Alliance has provided energy saving initiatives by upgrading the lighting and water controls to provide notable savings. We worked with London Borough of Islington and GLL to keep centres operational during the project.  This reduces customer inconvenience and the likelihood of loss of customers during renovation. Archway Leisure Centre, Islington London Borough of Islington and leisure operator and charitable social enterprise GLL has relaunched Archway Leisure Centre in Islington after extensive refurbishment.  The community has convincingly approved of the new facilities with new memberships increasing by 100% within the first two months of opening. Clarkson Alliance was selected to provide project management, cost management, design and principal designer services for the scheme. Clarkson Alliance works in partnership with charitable social enterprises and Local Authorities to deliver their leisure strategies through optimising facilities.  The strategies devised often include increased participation to engage the community in a healthy lifestyle. We work with our customers to provide certainty of outcome for their projects and secure the future of their leisure strategies. Archway Leisure Centre is operated by GLL, one of the UK’s largest leisure trusts and social enterprises, under their Better brand.  GLL embarked on the project after taking over operation of facilities in 2014. The objective of the project is to improve the quality of facilities, encourage usage and provide a more inclusive environment for the community. The revitalised leisure centre has an extended gym, a brand new modern reception, new dry changing rooms, a new health suite and redeveloped circulation spaces. Energy savings are built into the scheme through Clarkson Alliance’s sister company, Leisure Energy, who identified significant energy savings. Islington Leisure Investment, Islington Clarkson Alliance is providing project management, cost management, design and CDM-C services for the London Borough of Islington in a £6.2m project that will see the updating and upgrading of leisure facilities at five of its sites. The project is managed in partnership with leisure operator and charitable social enterprise GLL and will deliver upgrades and extensions to the gyms and reception areas, new changing rooms and enhanced fitness areas of Cally Pool, Archway Leisure Centre, Sobell Leisure Centre, Islington Tennis Centre and Highbury Pool. Clarkson Alliance was appointed because of our successful track record working with leisure trust partners and in particular our expertise in leisure energy savings. New energy efficient measures are being introduced in the project as part of the local authority spend-to-save scheme. We have provided strategic counsel on several similar schemes, with the intention that the initial investment can create sustainable, longer term savings if the right procurement decisions are made. A Building Information Modelling (BIM) solution was also adopted for the design stages of the project, allowing for accurate projection of completion and cost tracking thanks to the BIM models that are created at this stage.
