Chirk Leisure Centre reopened following successful refurbishment

On 26 July 2017, the Chirk Leisure and Activity Centre was reopened following extensive refurbishment to improve provision for the local community. The centre was reopened by the Major of Wrexham, Councillor John Pritchard. Clarkson Alliance provided design, project and cost management services, and worked closely with our partners Leisure Energy who delivered energy saving measures that will reduce energy consumption by 36%. The refurbishments included a new, expanded fitness suite and free weights area, as well as a new reception area, and new lighting over the swimming pool which has dramatically improved the swimming experience and has received great feedback from users. The project received funding from the Welsh government, which supports the improvement in facilities to help people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds to participate and enjoy sport. Clarkson Alliance are also working to complete refurbishments at the Waterworld Leisure Centre in nearby Wrexham, which is on track to be opened in October....

Wrexham leisure centres plan refurbishment which reduces borough’s carbon emissions by 400 tonnes p.a.

Wrexham leisure centres plan refurbishment which reduces borough’s carbon emissions by 400 tonnes p.a.

Two leisure centres in Wrexham aim to increase participation by residents and reduce energy consumption thanks to a partnership between Wrexham County Borough Council, Freedom Leisure, Clarkson Alliance and Leisure Energy. The refurbishment project at Waterworld and Chirk Leisure Centres plan to provide a greater diversity of activities to draw in a wider demographic, reduce inactivity and improve the wellbeing of residents. One of the desired outcomes of the project is to reduce energy consumption. The long hours and specific energy needs of a leisure centre mean that utilities are the second largest overhead. Apart from the obvious environmental impact, savings created from reduced usage can be reinvested back into the centres, which is an attractive prospect for Local Authorities with limited budgets. The new alterations will reduce energy by 400 tonnes p.a. which is equivalent to the energy needed to power 150 new 3 bedroom houses each year. The projects are the fourth and fifth Freedom Leisure has partnered with Clarkson Alliance for in Wales. The leisure operator also took over the leisure centres in the Powys area last year which are also being upgraded. In our capacity as design, project and cost managers Clarkson Alliance has been working closely with Freedom Leisure and Wrexham County Borough Council to define their outcomes and design a scheme to fulfil them. The project at Chirk is on schedule to complete in July 2017 and Waterworld Wrexham will also be completed during autumn 2017.  Clarkson Alliance is also providing Principal Designer services. “As we continue our expansion into Wales, we’re working on providing residents with wider and improved leisure options that...

Clarkson Alliance wins Outstanding Customer Satisfaction award at Constructing Excellence London & South East Awards 2016

Clarkson Alliance is delighted to be awarded the Outstanding Customer Satisfaction award at this year’s Constructing Excellence London & South East Awards. The coveted award was presented last Thursday at the annual Gala awards dinner at Lancaster London. Over 560 construction industry professionals attended the awards ceremony which has quadrupled in size since 2011. The award was made based on our approach to providing outstanding customer service which entails Finding out what is really important to our clients Developing and agreeing clear objectives based on these findings Undertaking stage-end reviews with the project team to keep on track and draw out lessons learned and; Conducting six-monthly face-to-face reviews with each and every customer. “Clarkson Alliance made a positive decision to do something different to improve their customers’ experience” said Ian Bailey, Director of category sponsors Artelia UK.  “The judges were impressed by their strategic approach to drive a collaborative team to deliver outstanding customer satisfaction. They clearly demonstrated their use of feedback from face-to-face client reviews to drive continuous improvement.” Our performance review process began in 2011 and is continuously refined. Early on, Clarkson Alliance established that customers employ the services of an external Project Management consultancy to ensure their project is delivered on time, within budget and that the completed facility delivers the required outcomes. However as no one single individual is responsible for the success or failure of a project, contracting to ensure outcomes not wholly under your control is always a risk; a risk to customer expectation and a risk to future business. As delivering projects is a team pursuit, Clarkson Alliance developed a strategy for Project Management focused on making sure that...
